This is my DLO on Smart Searching. My topic was Soccer. Mrs Anderson helped me out in the beginning, She gave me three opened questions about Soccer. She then said these questions could lead to more question which, meant I could find more information. I ended up having ten questions. I gathered information and wrote them all in my book. I then had to create a DLO on it. I had to include images that needed to be attributes. I also had to add references. I have learnt a lot about smart searching.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson, and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Tech: Flying Object
Today at Tech the Yr7s started doing their flying object. Miss Ferguson showed us how to create our flying object using cardboard. First we had to draw our object and our wing on a piece of paper. We then had to colour it in. After that we had to draw it on cardboard. We had to make holes to string the string and thing the wing. At the end it would look like this.
This is an example of Eric's flying object, (flying phone.)

Touch Rugby
This afternoon LS2 had another session on touch rugby. We first did a warm up. Our warm up was running, high knees, but kicks and jogging. After that we were practising our passes. We what to do after we got touched. After that the girls played rats and rabbits. When the someone calls out rabbits, rats have to catch the rabbits and the rabbits have to run. If someone calls out rats they have to do the same thing. The boys were playing the passing game. You have to pass the ball clockwise and, catch it. If it is a drop ball or bad pass you're out. Then the boys and girls would switch. A big thank you to Trevor and, Mr Malase (Mr M) for helping us out in kiwisport. I am looking forward for next weeks session because we are going to have a game of touch rugby.
Reading Current Events
This is my DLO on current events. I wanted to catch up with space news. Obama wants astronauts to go to Mars in the mid 2030's. A lot of scientists say that we might live in Mars in the next years. That's why Obama wants astronauts to see what Mars is like.
How to Narrow a search
LS2 have been learning to research better. This a DLO I did with Lyndon and Harlem. A lot of people have trouble researching. Thanks to Mrs Ogilvie we learnt how to do that. Mrs Anderson taught the people that didn't go cybersmart how to find the answer you want when, you research. The trick was to use keywords. If you write the words the, is or how it will not come up with the answer. I hope that this DLO helps you with your research. Here are the links to the results: LINK 1 LINK 2 LINK 3 LINK 4 LINK 5
Tech: SD Sketching
Today at Tech the Yr7s did 3D sketching at Tech. We have learnt new skills to make our drawing 3D. Miss Ferguson taught how to draw 3D shapes. She also taught us how to change a 2D shape to a 3D shape. We first were drawing oblique shapes. One way she taught us how to draw 3D shapes was trace of an isometric gridline. She then taught us the differnt shades. We had to colour in out 3D shape in the different shades. The last thing she taught us was how to make it look like it was standing on something, by drawing a shadow.

Tahuna Torea
This is a DLO on Tahuna Torea. I worked with Daniel, AJ, Eric, Sylis, CJ and Calvin. This is a place where most of the birds come to rest. Especially Godwits because, of their long migration flight. Dogs are not allowed to come in. They come here to regain the weight they loss to go back to Alaska.
Maths: Maths multiplication word problems
LI: Solving multiplication problems in everyday contexts
Today for maths we did multiplication problems. I really liked this activity because the questions were really fun and creative. I worked with Sylis. There are some trick questions. One of them were to write how he could work it out? Most people just wrote the answer. We were having trouble on the last questions but, we managed to answer them.

Reading
Today in reading we were practising out strategies for our test that is coming up. First we read Feet for flight which is a nonfiction text. We had to read the instructions first then, read the questions and read the text. We had to go back and, find the answer in the text. We had to use a strategy called elimination. We had to find the best answer for the question. After we did that as a group we had to do another text and, do the exact same things.

Cybersmart
Mrs Ogilvie came to PBS to talk and, teach about Cybersmart. Mrs Ogilvie gave us a website that can be really handy in researching. Most of the Yr 8's and, some on the Yr 7's went to the library to learn about Cybersmart. The people the learnt about smart searching taught the people that didn't go and learn. I didn't go so my partner was Mia. We used a sight called Epic it leads us to two other websites which, are Kids infobits and Britannica. You can search up anything on there and there will most likely have your answer. These websites are really useful for researching.

Rhythm Interactive
Johnny and Lucy came to PBS to teach us different beats in drumming. In the beginning they started drumming and sang a song. The song the sang was ooo yaka umba yeah yaka umba yeah. There were new rhythms that they told us. They taught us different beats to a drum. The kept singing ooo yaka umba yeah yaka umba yeah and it got stuck in our head. We had to follow the different beats. In the beginning they didn't have an intro because, he said actions speak louder than words. At the end Johnny and Lucy played a song at the end. The song was I like ice cream, I like banana ice cream. The kept singing it and it sounded really awesome.

Kiwisport: Touch Rugby
For the first part of this term our kiwisport is Touch Rugby. LS2 had their lesson after lunch. Our coach's name was Trevor. First we were learning how to pass and run. It was really fun. My favourite one was when we had to pass the ball down the line and the last person had to run to the other side, while the rest move down the line, and it starts all over again. At the end we put our passing skills to the test. We had to get in a circle. Then Trevor would give four to six people a rugby ball. We then had to pass the ball clockwise. We had to pass it our fastest. If did a bad pass or drop ball then you would be out. I was one of the last people still in the game. I really liked this game I had so much fun doing it.
Water DLO
This is my DLO in water I did with Harlem. Since our school is a water school only now the only school we can only drink water. Starting on week two Monday we are only allowed to bring water to school. Water keeps us hydrated and healthy. So LS2 thought that it would be good if we made a DLO on why kids at school should only drink water. We also added in hydration, dehydration and other drinks.

Yr7 Collaborative Godwit/ Kuaka Poplet
This term our inquiry focus was on the Bartailed Godwit but in Maori it is known as the Kuaka. The Yr7's have created a popplet together that tells informations about the appearance, habitat, Migration diet and what effects Godwit/Kuaka in different ways. We also added in some images and videos to give a clear picture of the special bird. Did you know that they have a 8-9 day non stop flight, this adds up to one whole week and one day which is a short period of time considering they are flying long distance. We look foward to learn more about the unique birds.
Current Events
Today I was on Kiwi Kids News and I clicked on the odd stuff category and I was hooked into the title. I read the article and I thought it would be great if I made a DLO on it, so I did. There is a new species of a snake. It is called the Ghost Snake. The U-S Madagascar research team discovered it in Madagascar. The DLO I have created has a lot of information for you to read, I
hope that you have learnt something new today.

Leadership word cloud
This is my word cloud on leadership. The Yr7's had to make a word cloud. We had to write the quality words of a leader. We also had to write the names of a leader, it could either be a world famous leader or a leader that you know. We are doing this to be ready to become a leader next year because we are going to be Yr 8. Being a leader is important. You don't have to be perfect to be a leader, because everyone makes mistakes.
