Procedural Text - How to Make a Straw Rocket

This is a DLO on how to make a straw rocket. We made this at Tamaki Collage. We had a lot of fun making it. I had help from Harlem making this procedural text. I really enjoy making procedural texts because you give people a lot of help, like if they need to do something. The straw rockets went really far if you blew it properly and attached the fins.

Multi ModalReading

This morning we started on our Multi Modal task. First we started of with travelling, The questions were how do we travel today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. We had to use our prior knowledge (what already know) to answer the questions. We couldn't use the internet and this was giving us stronger connections to the questions. We then had 10 minutes of free time. After our free time we did reciprocal reading. Our story was about Godwits. We first had to make our predictions on what the story might be about. Everyone made their prediction, we didn't get any further than this but we will continue after. Tamaki Collage Collage

This a collage that Calvin, Harlem and I made. This is when we went down to Tamaki Collage. This collage is in time order. We still have another session this week. We are going to finish our rockets and fly our rockets. I am looking forward to continue with our session. Hopefully no one's rocket backfires.

Straw Rockets

This is our DLO on Rockets. I worked with Harlem, Tai and Calvin. We went to Tamaki Collage and did this as a class. We had to measure our distance with our straw rockets. First we needed to make a prediction. We had to write our distances in the table box and come up with an average. We then had to add fins to it and see if there was a difference. After that we had to evaluate.

Rockets at Tamaki Collage

On Friday Last week we had Tech. After tech, we were with Mr Dunn making rockets. First we made straw rockets we had to get a straw cut it to a certain length and seal the end with sellotape. We then had to get another straw and put it into the first straw. After that we had to measure how far it went by blowing it out. CJ's one managed to get around 900cm. After that we had a competition. CJ won, 2nd was Gozan and 3rd was Lyndon. We had our break for lunch afterwards. Next Mr Dunn showed us to make paper rockets. Not all of us managed to finish in time but, Mr Dunn took us near the Tamaki Collage centre on the field. The first one didn't go to well but the second one did. Miss Ferguson made one and named it the carrot, she 3D printed it. We actually lost it when it went off. A very big thanks to Mr Dunn for setting all of this up, we really enjoyed doing this activity.

Hockey Yr 7

This weeks session in Hockey we were mainly focusing on tackling. First we had two games of Octopus. After that we did the same think but with Hockey sticks and Hockey balls. There were two tacklers in the beginning, I got out on the last round by CJ. Next we had to do juggles with Hockey stick. We had to pass it to each other. The challenge was to make the juggle higher each pass. The last thing we did was have a game of Hockey. It was the same as last week. We had to make at least one pass. The game was tie. We had one more last game and someone got hit in the face with a Hockey stick by accident.

Leader Nominations

Today LS2 Yr 7's have made nominations for next year's school leaders.  The are a lot of qualities of being a good school leader. you have to be a good role model, lead by example, look smart in uniform, motivate and interest people. There are meany more but you don't need to do them all at once because no on is perfect. There will be a Head boy and girl. Sports leader boy and girl and Manaiakalani boy and girl leaders. When the next leaders they have to write a speech.
