Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer learning Journey I had to compare, contrast and find the similarities of my house and a wharepuni (a place where maori people slept in). I decided to create a venn diagram. An interesting fact I learnt was that the roofs of a wharepuni are thatched.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I watched a video of a Waka Ama race (a sporting event that involves wakas racing). After I had watched the video I had to explain on my blog whether I would want to be in one of a waka ama race one day, why? or why not?

I would want to be in a Waka Ama race because I would like to experience what it feels like to travel through water at such a fast speed in a waka.

The second activity for the first day of The Summer Learning Journey involves about how I would feel if I was in a waka filled with other people heading off to New Zealand, in a letter I would send to a friend.

Letter: Hi AJ, currently I am in a waka filled with a lot of people that I don't know. I am really scared because the people sitting next to me are acting pretty dodgy. I am also nervous because apparently we are going to a country named New Zealand. I am really worried about my health because I have not eaten or drank anything for the past two days.

For the first Summer Learning Journey activity I had to find three interesting facts about Maui.

Three interesting facts about Maui:

1. Maui was the youngest out of his brothers.
2. Maui always wanted to go fishing with his older brothers
3. Maui has a special karakia that he recites

I have heard other stories about Maui one being how Maui slowed the sun.

The NEXT Foundation - Summer Learning Journey

Today The NEXT Foundation came to our school assembly. They were here to launch the Summer Learning Journey for 2017/2018. The Summer Learning Journey is hosted by Rachael Williams, the program consists of many different entertaining and educational activities. The NEXT Foundation have made a mini movie with our school. The main character was Daniel (a student in Panmure Bridge School). There were also other students featured in the movie. They were filming Daniel completing the Summer Learning Journey activities, the benefit of taking part in the program, commenting on blogposts and many more. I have been participated in the Summer/Winter Learning Journey for 1 year and a half. After our special assembly The NEXT Foundation provided lunch for our whole school. It was delicious.

Christmas in Japan

Yesterday LS2 were doing collaborative challenge. I was in the group with Nickaela, Sa Kae and Christopher. We all worked really well and our group collaborated. Our task was to choose a country that celebrates Christmas and we were finding out some facts about that country. Our group choose Japan. We have learnt that the name for Santa in Japanese is Hotei Osho and I've also learnt what they eats for Christmas day. I've learnt a lot's about how Japan celebrates Christmas.

Maths - Geometry co-ordination

For maths today, we were doing some geometry coordination. First of all, we had to complete four pages of reading maps. Some of the tasks were pretty easy like: Draw a snake in the jungle and draw a road from toptown to hilltown. Then, we were given a piece paper with instructions and a piece of paper with a half completed dog. Our challenge was to follow the instructions to complete the dog. We then had to color the dog in. For this task, we had to remember and use the ladder rule (You can't go up and across but you can go across then up).
