Activity 1: Visit the website for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Click on the name of the one of the sports that is listed on the main page. If possible, choose one that you have never heard of before and read about it. After reading about the sport, post a short description of it on your blog. The post must include:
- The name of the sport: Fencing
- The aim of the sport: To land blows on the opponent body as much as possible using a blunt ended blade
- Two rules for the sport : You have to wear proper equipment, like a mask and a fencing jacket. fencers must salute each other at the beginning and end.

ReplyDeleteMy name's Willy, one of the commenters for the Winter Learning Journey. I like how you changed your answers into a different font. Nice information on fencing, I never knew that fencers must salute each other at the beginning, AND the end. I've done a bit of research and have learned that fencing has had a lot of history of courtesy and good sportsmanship. The people who participate in this event must be preeetty humble, wouldn't you agree?

DeleteThanks for doing some extra research, Willy. Fencing does have a long history of courtesy and gentility. Th competitors would often show each other huge respect and courtesy. In my opinion, it's quite ironic that they were so courteous with one another before the match, given that the goal was to stab each other with blunt-ended weapons!

Hello Oh Hsen, I have heard of the sport fencing but I am sure that I haven't seen it been played. I like how you put your answer in a different colour so people reading this blog post know that that is your answer.
