Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey I had to watch a trailer of a movie. The movie was about The Beatles. After I had watched the trailer I had to write on my blog 2 things I learnt in that trailer

1. I learnt that they kept going even after they felt like they were at an end
2. Their band was losing track of themselves but they worked together as a team

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to imagine if I got the chance to invite either 2 musicians or 2 bands to the WOMAD which stands for World of Music, Arts and Dance.  I would invite The Beatles and and David Bowie. I chose the Beatles because they have been one of the best for a long time and David Bowie because I think his songs are great.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to listen 3 of Justin Bieber's songs which was Sorry, Baby and Love Yourself. After I had listen to the 3 songs I had to rank them from 1 the best and 3 the worst.
1. Love Yourself
2. Sorry
3. Baby
I ranked Baby the worst because I didn't like the lyrics and it kept repeating Baby. I ranked Sorry 2nd because I though the lyrics were alright but it kept repeating Sorry. I ranked Love Yourself 1st because I liked the lyrics and the beat.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey I had to find a clip of a NZ TV show. The name of the TV show is Amazing Extraordinary Friends. It is a boy who wants to be a hero and becomes one. He can't fight bad guys by himself so he gets a team. Here is a link to the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKLJtwmbLl4

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey I had to tell what my favourite TV show is. My favourite TV show is The Flash. It is about a a guy names Barry Allen who gets struck by lightning and gets super speed from that. He uses this ability to fight crime and save people.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to watch a clip of a TV show, which was a show in Germany. The title name is Lowenzahn. One thing I like was that it was based on Star Wars. One thing I didn't like was that it was in a different language and I couldn't understand what the main character was saying. I would rate it a (***/*****), which is 3 out of 5.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to think which one of these sports is the best: Rugby Union, Rugby League, Netball, Soccer and Cricket. I also had to write why I think it is the best sport. I think Soccer is the best sport because you can learn a lot of new tricks. The main reason I think it is the best is because it also has multiple different tournaments like the FIFA World cup, The Liga BVVA, which I think is entertaining to watch.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to write a short paragraph on my sporting hero. My sporting hero is Lionel Messi. I like him because he works with his team very well, he also shows fair play and doesn't judge people.SUmm

Summer Learning Journey

For this Summer Learning Journey activity I had to take a photo of me playing a New Zealand sport. I had to write the name of the sport I was playing and and write why I have chosen this sport. The sport I am playing is Soccer. I chose Soccer because it is my favourite sport and I only had a Soccer ball. It was hard using the webcam from my chromebook and I accidentally cut my head off.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to write what my class's timetable is for one day. Sometimes the morning activities are switched around

855 -  Roll call
9:00 - Maths
9:45 - Reading
10:30 - Morning Tea/Break
10:50 - Writing
12:30 - Lunch/Break
1:30 - Inquiry
3:00 Hometime

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to tell my favourite subject. My favourite subject is reading because I learn new words and I use them in narratives and it improves my writing. Another reason I like reading is because it challenges me to read harder and longer books.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity for the Summer Learning Journey I had to compare things that are similar with schools in Germany and schools in New Zealand, I also had to find out the different things they do in Germany and write it in my blog. I also had to write whether I would go to a school in New Zealand or Germany. One thing that is similar with German schools is that we also have PE sessions after lunch. One thing that is different with German schools is that they have shorter break times. I would rather go to a New Zealand school because they have longer break times. They also have to learn other languages and I am really bad at that.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Activity I had to ask anyone in my family to answer the following 5 questions. What is your name?, Where were you born?, How many siblings do you have?, What is your favourite thing about living in New Zealand?, If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?

What is your name? Ohsmar
Where were you born? Thailand
How many siblings do you have? 3
Whats your favourite thing about New Zealand? Theme Parks
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? and why? Dubai to visit Burj Khalifa and to skydive.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to write on my blog something I like and don't like, if I was living with 18 other siblings.
One thing I would like is competing with my siblings because it's better than competing with 1 and it's more fun playing with others. One thing I wouldn't like is that since it's a large family we might get into a lot of arguments and fights.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to tell you about my family. In my family there are 6 people including me. My mum's name is R'sidar. My dad's name is Shweba. My brother's name is Ohsmar. My sister's (older sister) name is Zakara. My sister's (younger sister) name is O-ninesha.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to ask someone in my family what their 5 favourite things to do in the Summer. I asked my little sister.

Summer Activities
1 - Making sandcastles at the beach
2- Swimming in the pools and at the beach
3 - Playing with my friends (My sisters friends)
4 - Playing hide and seek with my family
5 - Colouring in

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity for the Summer Learning Journey I had two choices of what to do for this activity. Either take a photo of your favourite activity, upload it on your blog with a description or write a paragraph of what you do in Summer on your blog. I chose to do option 2.

In the Summer I really like going to the pools with my friends. We go on the hydro slide and the on the diving pool. We usually go in the pool for and play games in there like Marco Polo, tag in the volleyball and many more. I also play sports like Soccer Touch, and Rugby with my friends either after the pools or on a different day.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity for the Summer Learning Journey I had to say if breakfast is the healthiest meal of the day or not. I think it is because it wakes you up, energises you, makes you ready for the day. The most important reason I think breakfast in the most important meal of the day is because it makes you stay focus in school and helps you think (if you go to school).

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity for the Summer Learning Journey I had to take a photo of me eating a famous New Zealand food. I took a photo of me eating an ANZAC biscuit.

Summer Learning Journey

For this Activity I had to compare my chosen country breakfast to what I usually eat here in New Zealand.
On my blog I had to tell:
1. What you eat for breakfast - Coco Pops (cereal)
2.  What people in your chosen country (German) eat for breakfast - Brotchen
3. Which of the two options (your breakfast or the breakfast in the other country) you prefer. Why do you prefer it. I would choose my breakfast because German breakfast is too much food for breakfast and it has cheese in it and I don't like cheese.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity for the Summer Learning Journey I had to translate the 5 basic phrases of the following languages: Spanish, German, Malaysian, Japanese, Arabic or Afrikaans. I chose Spanish

Good Morning - Buenos dias
Goodbye - Adiós
How much does this cost? - Cuánto cuesta este
When is the next bus? - Cuándo pasa el próximo autobús
Where is the nearest hospital?- Donde esta el hospital mas cercano

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to take a photo on how I would be feeling. I would be feeling really curious.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to imagine I was standing in the airport of a foreign country and to figure out how to communicate with people in a brand new language and write a poem on how I would be feeling.

Learning new words is harder than I thought
Went out and got a dictionary bought
It's hard to pronunciate
But I know I have to communicate
Went out to get some fresh air
And started wondering how I even got here

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity I had to choose a sentence out of 3 and end it. For full points I had to post 8 - 10 sentences.

I looked around the room. Nothing seemed unusual, but then I heard the stairs creaking. I saw someones shadow getting closer and closer to my bedroom. My door was slowly opening I turned my head away. After that everything went silent. I turned my head to see if someone was in my room. At this point I was very scared. I stood up and said who's there. Then all of a sudden I see someone with a scary mask on and I scream AHHHHHHH!. Then I heard someone say happy Halloween, and realised I got pranked by my friends.

Summer Learning Journey - Choosing a book for Curious Kiwi

Wimpy Kid 5.jpg

For this activity I had to choose a book for Curious Kiwi to read. I had the choice of The Hunger Games Catching Fire, Matilda or Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Ugly Truth. I chose Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Ugly Truth because there are some really funny parts and Greg goes through a lot of stuff and Curious Kiwi is Curious to know what he goes through and what the ugly truth is.

Summer Learning Journey - Book Recommendation

For this activity I have to recommend a book to Curious Kiwi because he is going to get bored during the flight.
Image result for Billionaire bob book
I have recommended him Billionaire Boy. The author is David Williams. It is about a boy named Joe Spud he is very rich and buy a lot of things but, he wanted one thing that you couldn't buy and that's a friend.

Monday - Mostly cloudy
Tuesday - Partly sunny
Wednesday - Sunshine and patchy clouds
Thursday - Mostly sunny
Friday - Mostly cloudy

Summer Learning Journey - Currency exchange

Canada - $2064 - NZ $2,222.21
The most expensive country to visit is Mexico. The cheapest country to visit is Australia.

Summer Learning Journey - Airline

For this activity I had to create a logo of an airline. I named my Aotearoa Airline because it is the Maori name for New Zealand and it's where I live. I have picture of Aotearoa and the name Aotearoa Airline above it.

Summer Learning Journey - Safety things on an airplane

For this activity I had to watch two safety video on a airplane. After I had watched both of them I had to write three important to do to stay safe in an airplane.
1. Make sure to buckle you seat belt across your waist, if you need to get out then lift the lever.
2.  If you need some air an oxygen mask will fall in front of your face and place it over your nose and mouth.
3. If an emergency were to happen fasten your seatbelt, place your forehead on the seat in front of you and put your feet back and firmly on the floor.

Summer Learning Journey - Wellington

For this activity I have to write the things I want to do in Wellington (Capital city of New Zealand). Because I haven't been there. If I have then I would have to write the things I did there. The things I would want to do at Wellington are/is visit the Beehive because it's where the government works there and I am interested in that. The second thing I would want to do is go shopping because, I want to see what the malls are like in Wellington compared to Auckland's malls.

Summer Learning Journey - Should Bullfighting be Banned?

For this activity I have to decide whether or not I think bullfighting should be banned. I think that it should be banned because the toreros could get killed and bulls don't deserve to die. It is also very dangerous even if you don't get killed you could end up being badly injured. I am against bullfighting and I think it should be banned

Summer Learning Journey - Learning the Basics

For this activity I have to know the most basic things in Germany. I have to complete the sentences down below which are the basic things I should know about Germany.

1. The name of the capital city is Berlin
2. The population of the capital city is 3.502 million
3. In January, the weather in the capital city is usually 30 degrees Fahrenheit
4. The capital city is located in the northeastern part of the country
5. The languages most commonly spoken in the capital city are Turkish, English and Arabic.

Summer Learning Journey - Bonus Activity

For the Summer Learning Journey there is a bonus round activity. The activity is to write a letter to a family member or friend about you going to the country you chose, here is my letter.

Dear Mum
I am going to Germany to learn about their language and hopefully I get to meet some of the Soccer players I want to. When I come back I will know how to speak some German and I will teach you. I am going to be gone for 4 weeks. I am going to miss so much.
Love, from Oh Hsen

Summer Learning Journey - Facts about Germany

For this activity I had to find three facts the about the country I chose which was Germany. I wasn't allowed to include the facts that were in the world map
Fact 1 - The name Germany is Deutschland in the German Language.
Fact 2 - Germany's national Soccer team won the 2014 World Cup.
Fact 3 - Fanta (Fizzy Drink) Originated in Germany

Summer Learning Journey - Choosing a Destination

For the first activity of the Summer Learning Journey I had to pick one country I would visit. I chose Germany because I am really interested in their language. Another reason is because one of their national sport is Soccer and Soccer is my favourite sport.

Blog Commenting

These are screenshots of my comments. I commented on one year 7 girl, one year 7 boy, one year 8 girl and one year 8 boy, which are Zahra, Eric, Jessie and Pote. I haven't commented in a while so I decided to do it again. Now that I have commented more I have motivated myself to comment even more.

Kuaka/Godwit DLO

P.E with Mr Ogilvie

Today the Yr 7s had P.E with Mr Ogilvie after lunch. We had sport with LS1 year 6s. We first had spas. We had to have our weak hand on our knee and our strong hand touching the shoulder of someone else. We then had 2 games of Octopus. Te Wai got a majority of people out. He was everywhere at once. I got out by him on the first round and Fraidoon got me on the second round. We then had another random game we had to go through thes gaps and the tagger couldn't, somehow the had to tag us. I had a lot of fun having P.E with Mr Ogilvie.

Labyrinth

LS2 watched a film called Labyrinth. I really liked the movie. The genre was Fantasy. We were doing Fantasy conventions before we watched it. My group manged to have all the answers based on one movie which was Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. After we had watched the movie we had to make a DLO and it had to include the following things: have a picture, include a characters introduction, Narrative structure, your favourite part of the movie and it has to include the word Labyrinth in a sentence at least once.

Rockets at Tamaki Collage

Today the Yr7's and 8's went to Tamaki Collage to shoot up their rockets. Some peoples rockets backfired, mine and Harlem's did. It git shot in the air and started spiralling down. Harlem and I managed to finish our rockets in time. We had to have blue tack in our nose cone and an engine inserted at the hole at the bottom. My favourite one that worked was Tai's. At first his one didn't work but he tried again at the end and it went high and deployed properly. The Yr7's and 8's really enjoyed this activity. We would like to thank Mrs Ferguson and Mr Dunn for organising all of this we really appreciate it.

Nominee Spechees

This Afternoon the leader nominees went up on stage and did their speech (I was one of them) and presented in fornt of the Yr 7s, 8s, Mr Johnston, Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson. First was Shannon then Daniel then it was me. When Daniel was announcing his speech I started getting nervous because I was next. My turn came to do my say my speech, I was going for Manaiakalani. At first was stuttering but I think I started speaking more clear. Once I was finished my speech next was Zahra (Manaiakalani nominee), I think she did really good with her speech. Next was Eric (Sports nominee), after Eric was Mia (Head girl nominee), after Mia was Sylis (Head boy nominee) and the last person that did their speech was AJ (Head boy nominee). I think all the nominees did an amazing job saying their speech. It's not long till prizegiving which is when the 2017 school leaders will be announced.

Barack Obama

This is my DLO on Barack Obama. I made a presentation on why he is a respected leader. He is the president of America and a lot of people are glad that he is president. I also think that he is a good leader.

Tahuna Torea Exploration

Yesterday LS1, LS2 and Room 5 went to Tahuna Torea to explore it. Ls2's bus was running 15 minutes late so had to wait. When we arrived there we had our lunch, went to the beach view and went to the playground straight after. This was really fun. I really enjoyed the spinning wheel. It went really fast and everyone got dizzy. The bushwalk/exploring the wetlands was amazing we saw a lot of amazing views. Everyone got tired after a couple minutes. This was all linked to our learning. It was really fun and enjoyable at Tahuna Torea. This a DLO of our trip on Tahuna Torea. I worked with Harlem and Te Wai to complete it.

Procedural Text - How to Make a Straw Rocket

This is a DLO on how to make a straw rocket. We made this at Tamaki Collage. We had a lot of fun making it. I had help from Harlem making this procedural text. I really enjoy making procedural texts because you give people a lot of help, like if they need to do something. The straw rockets went really far if you blew it properly and attached the fins.

Multi ModalReading

This morning we started on our Multi Modal task. First we started of with travelling, The questions were how do we travel today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. We had to use our prior knowledge (what already know) to answer the questions. We couldn't use the internet and this was giving us stronger connections to the questions. We then had 10 minutes of free time. After our free time we did reciprocal reading. Our story was about Godwits. We first had to make our predictions on what the story might be about. Everyone made their prediction, we didn't get any further than this but we will continue after. Here is the link to the multi modal site https://sites.google.com/a/panmurebridge.school.nz/digital-footsteps-2016/kuaka-is-their-migratory-journey-necessary

Tamaki Collage Collage

This a collage that Calvin, Harlem and I made. This is when we went down to Tamaki Collage. This collage is in time order. We still have another session this week. We are going to finish our rockets and fly our rockets. I am looking forward to continue with our session. Hopefully no one's rocket backfires.

Straw Rockets

This is our DLO on Rockets. I worked with Harlem, Tai and Calvin. We went to Tamaki Collage and did this as a class. We had to measure our distance with our straw rockets. First we needed to make a prediction. We had to write our distances in the table box and come up with an average. We then had to add fins to it and see if there was a difference. After that we had to evaluate.

Rockets at Tamaki Collage

On Friday Last week we had Tech. After tech, we were with Mr Dunn making rockets. First we made straw rockets we had to get a straw cut it to a certain length and seal the end with sellotape. We then had to get another straw and put it into the first straw. After that we had to measure how far it went by blowing it out. CJ's one managed to get around 900cm. After that we had a competition. CJ won, 2nd was Gozan and 3rd was Lyndon. We had our break for lunch afterwards. Next Mr Dunn showed us to make paper rockets. Not all of us managed to finish in time but, Mr Dunn took us near the Tamaki Collage centre on the field. The first one didn't go to well but the second one did. Miss Ferguson made one and named it the carrot, she 3D printed it. We actually lost it when it went off. A very big thanks to Mr Dunn for setting all of this up, we really enjoyed doing this activity.

Hockey Yr 7

This weeks session in Hockey we were mainly focusing on tackling. First we had two games of Octopus. After that we did the same think but with Hockey sticks and Hockey balls. There were two tacklers in the beginning, I got out on the last round by CJ. Next we had to do juggles with Hockey stick. We had to pass it to each other. The challenge was to make the juggle higher each pass. The last thing we did was have a game of Hockey. It was the same as last week. We had to make at least one pass. The game was tie. We had one more last game and someone got hit in the face with a Hockey stick by accident.

Leader Nominations

Today LS2 Yr 7's have made nominations for next year's school leaders.  The are a lot of qualities of being a good school leader. you have to be a good role model, lead by example, look smart in uniform, motivate and interest people. There are meany more but you don't need to do them all at once because no on is perfect. There will be a Head boy and girl. Sports leader boy and girl and Manaiakalani boy and girl leaders. When the next leaders they have to write a speech.

Aretha Franklin's RESPECT song

In 1965 a song named Respect was released. The person who originally wrote this was Otis Redding. Aretha Franklin sang it, who is a really confident women. It really got popular for R&B in 1967. The main message of the song was for women having equal rights with men and treating women with respect. Here is the link to the lyrics https://play.google.com/music/preview/Twnsdqfbn5js5s76c2s2pvw2h3m?lyrics=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=lyrics&pcampaignid=kp-lyrics

Reply to Term 1 Oh Hsen

Dear Term 1 Oh Hsen
I can’t believe how fast this year went. I am entering Yr 8 soon. It’s almost time voting for the next school leaders. Around term 1 I actually twisted my bone playing soccer and had to get a cast on for six weeks. I wanted to go to Soccer cricket and Touch Rugby but I only managed make it into two interschools, Cricket and Soccer, unfortunately Soccer got canceled but Mr Ogilvie (a new teacher in LS1) organized Soccer for us in term 4. Prizegiving hasn’t came yet so I’m not sure if I’m going to get it. I have improved in reading writing and especially maths. I have had a lot of fun with my closest friends.
From term 4 Oh Hsen

This is my reply to myself. At the beginning of the year wrote a letter to myself to term 4. We had to reflect on this letter. This year has gone by so fast.

Hundertwasser DLO and Art

Last week LS2 has been researching about Hundertwasser (An Austrian liked making art, and didn't straight lines.) We had to to make a DLO and answer the 8 question about him. After we had done that we had to add images. The next thing we did was art. We had our own art like Hundertwasser. Most of our houses needed to be 3D and some could be 2D. We had to have creations like his, like the lollipop trees and mushroom domes . He also hid eyes and faces in places where it would we hard to spot. After we had drawn it, we had to go over it with vivid. After that we coloured it in, we had to have cold colours and hot colours and, we needed to make the colours blend. Our background could be cold and the drawings could be hot colours.

Yr7 Hockey

This session for Hockey we were mainly learning how to control the ball more better. This session we only had Carly. The first thing we did for this session was have two games of Octopus. After that we learnt how to control the ball by keeping it near our feet so it doesn't end up rolling away. We also learnt how to defend the ball with our Hockey stick. We had to use the mountain side. After that we had a game of Shark, we put our skills to the test. We had to try and knock people's hockey ball out of the court. At the end we had a game of hockey. Carly would call out a number and the first people would go. Unfortunately we didn't get photos.

Athletics Day

Today was Athletics day, although it was raining we managed to get through half of all of the activities. The Yr 7's got split up into three groups. The leaders were Javeylor, Mishaan and Mia. I was in Javeylor's group. The first activity we did was Basketball shoot out. Mishaan's team managed to win with 30 points, following by Mia's group they scored 14 points, we scored 8 points and came last but we had fun. The second activity we did was Rob the Nest. We had to pick up as many objects on the floor as we could and put it in our bucket. After all the objects we picked up from the floor, we had to get the more objects by robbing other groups objects. It was the same order as last time for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The next activity was Sponge Hurdle. We had to to pick up our sponge, soak it in water and squeeze it all out in our groups bucket turn by turn. This time we manged to come second Mia's group managed to beat us by a little. The next activity was Longjump. I really liked this one because we had a lot of fun doing this one. We came third, First was Mishaan's group and second was Mia's group. The last activity we did was Shotput. We had to use our skills that Andi taught us. We didn't manage to finish this activity because it started to rain a lot. I really enhoyed this year's Athletics and I am looking forward to next years one, I hope we don't have bad weather.

Yr7 Spelling

This is a DLO on Spelling that I have completed. Mrs Anderson had given us a task to complete. The task included completing syllables, choose five words and make them into interesting sentences, proofread a paragraph and fix the mistakes (I found this one most challenging) and copy and paste sign language symbols to make NZ platform names. After we had completed the tasks we could play a spelling game. Which is on the second slide and you can play it. Try and beat my best score 11,00 points.

Venn Diagram - Jean Batten and Richard Pearse

This is my venn diagram on Jean Batten and Richard Pearse. I worked with Javeylor on this. After making timelines of our aviators we had to compare and contrast on Jean Batten and Richard Pearse. The easiest way to do this was to make a venn diagram. I learnt that Jean Baten and Richard Pearse have a lot in common. I really enjoyed doing this task this task.

Popplet: Richard Pearse Timeline

This is my DLO I did with, I worked with Javeylor to complete this timeline. First we had to do a timeline of Jean Batten then we could choose any aviator we wanted. I chose to do Richard Pearse because he's a New Zealander. We had to have our timeline in chronological (time) order. I used Popplet this time because, I think Popplet is easier to use because it's easy to make text boxes and type.

Lucidcart: Jean Batten Timeline

The Yr7's and 8's have switched topics for inquiry. We are now researching aviators and making a timelines. This is my DLO I did with Javeylor. We had to research about Jean Batten and write 15 facts. After that we had to do a timeline on her, We had to have it in chronological (time) order. It was really hard using Lucidchart because arrows would pop out and we couldn't delete them. It's also very hard keep the line straight. Maybe next time I should use a different DLO to put all my information into.

Kiwisport: Hockey

Today we had kiwisport. For the rest of this term we will have Hockey as our kiwisport. First we had two games of Octopus. We learnt how to dribble the ball, reverse the ball, have control over the ball and Jinking (Juggling, my score was 103) the ball with a Hockey stick. Our coaches were really king and helpful. At the end we got into 2 groups and the couch would call out a number and, the first people would have to go.

Leadership Team Building

This is my DLO on Leadership I did with Sylis. Every Mondays the Yr8s have dance while the Yr7's have leadership. We are doing this to build trust with each other and next year we're going camp and we need to get along with each other. Mrs Anderson gives us really fun and exciting. I really enjoy doing leadership activities.

Procedural Text

For writing our Ms Kirkpatrick's group did a procedural text. We had to paper dart or plane. We needed to have the structure of a procedural text, one of them was the rule of three. A procedural text is a how to tutorial just with more information, like a diagrams and captions. A procedural text must have interesting verbs in the beginning of each step. I really enjoyed making a procedural text.

Storyboard That: Godwit

This is our last activity on Godwits for the Yr7's. Mrs Anderson found a fun website for an infographic. We had make an infographic on Godwits trip to Alaska. We had to include some facts aswell. It looks like it takes very little time, actually it takes a while putting objects to where you want it but, it was worth it because it was find making it.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

Today Panmure Bridge School went to Sylvia Park watch the Manaiakalani films. Our school (Panmure Bridge School) had the whole of the left hand side. Most of the Yr7 and 8's got to sit on the top comfortable seats. Some Yr 5 and 6's got to sit at the top as well. The top seats were very comfortable. My favourite videos were Tamaki primary's films because they were very funny. When we were heading back to school we saw a Police chase. Everyone was looking. Three people were running from the police. We only saw one person get caught, the cop handcuffed him so fast. We're not sure if the others got caught. Here is a link to the films - https://sites.google.com/a/ptengland.school.nz/film-festival-2011/view-films/2016-Films

Hyperbole

For writing the whole class worked on hyperbole's. Hyperbole's is a sentence that has exaggeration. E.G I have a million things to do. We all had two sheets. The first sheet was highlight the hyperbole's pink and the non hyperbole's blue. I only one wrong. The second sheet was a little harder, we had to fill in the lines. E.G I am so ______ I could eat a _____. The answer to that would be hungry and horse. We also had to highlight the similes blue. The last part we had to do was write a paragraph with as much hyperbole's we could write. this is my paragraph

Ben was at home waiting for his parents to come back from shopping. “Grandma, Mum and Dad are taking one billion years to go shopping” Ben said. “Just wait patiently Ben” Grandma replied. For time to go faster Ben went on his ipad and played his games. He had  been using his finger so much, his fingers would lose one billion KG’s. Ben remembered he had homework. Ben finished his homework and said to his grandma “I finally finished my homework, I took forever. Ben looked out the wind and saw a very good looking car, it looked like it would cost over one quintillion dollars. He realised that it was his parent’s new car. Ben’s Dad let Ben go in the car and see how fast it can go. Ben said to his dad it went so fast that it went faster than the speed of light and, we would have time traveled if, we went any faster.

Mesearment Flight

Today for maths we continued with our paper planes. We had to find out who's plane went the furthest in our groups. Tai's one went the furthest. We then had make the exact same plane of the plane that went the furtest. After that we had to make our logo. At the end we had to choose who could throw the plane the furthest in your group. Tai threw it the furthest. At the end the class had a competition to see who's plane goes the furthest. Thomas's one went the furthest. At the end we opened the windows and threw the planes once more and, there were better results.

We were watching video tutorials to make our paper planes, we were trailing to make our different planes. I had trouble making my paper plane so, Sebastian helped me out. After we finished making our planes we went outside and we had a competition on who's plane can go the furtherest. We measured it by feet. Everyone was having fun.

Godwits Migration

This is a DLO about Godwits and their migration. I worked with Nazella and Calvin. Our topic is about flight and, Yr7's are researching the Godwit. First we had to make a digital sketchnote to get our answers. The questions were long and, if we searched up the whole question we wouldn't get any answers. We had to use our smart searching skills to find our information. After we finished our digital sketchnote we had to make a DLO with all, our answers. There are some interesting facts there.

Congratulations To The Shake Out Cast

Congratulations to Latham for making a brilliant movie about an earthquake. The movie name is The Shake Out. Well done Sylis, Reon, Daniel and Jasmine because of their brilliant acting skills. I really hope you come first in the competition. Here is the link to the movie https://vimeo.com/189095082

Smart Searching DLO

This is my DLO on Smart Searching. My topic was Soccer. Mrs Anderson helped me out in the beginning, She gave me three opened questions about Soccer. She then said these questions could lead to more question which, meant I could find more information. I ended up having ten questions. I gathered information and wrote them all in my book. I then had to create a DLO on it. I had to include images that needed to be attributes. I also had to add references. I have learnt a lot about smart searching.

Wright Brothers

For reading today Ms Kirkpatrick's reading group read a scaffold text. Our scaffold text was about the Wright brothers. We had to create a DLO on the Wright Brothers. We had to find the main ideas of the brothers successful flight. We had to include the word controlled flight because, they had control over it.

Tech: Flying Object

Today at Tech the Yr7s started doing their flying object. Miss Ferguson showed us how to create our flying object using cardboard. First we had to draw our object and our wing on a piece of paper. We then had to colour it in. After that we had to draw it on cardboard. We had to make holes to string the string and thing the wing. At the end it would look like this.
This is an example of Eric's flying object, (flying phone.)

Touch Rugby

This afternoon LS2 had another session on touch rugby. We first did a warm up. Our warm up was running, high knees, but kicks and jogging. After that we were practising our passes. We what to do after we got touched. After that the girls played rats and rabbits. When the someone calls out rabbits, rats have to catch the rabbits and the rabbits have to run. If someone calls out rats they have to do the same thing. The boys were playing the passing game. You have to pass the ball clockwise and, catch it. If it is a drop ball or bad pass you're out. Then the boys and girls would switch. A big thank you to Trevor and, Mr Malase (Mr M) for helping us out in kiwisport. I am looking forward for next weeks session because we are going to have a game of touch rugby.

Reading Current Events

This is my DLO on current events. I wanted to catch up with space news. Obama wants astronauts to go to Mars in the mid 2030's. A lot of scientists say that we might live in Mars in the next years. That's why Obama wants astronauts to see what Mars is like.

How to Narrow a search

LS2 have been learning to research better. This a DLO I did with Lyndon and Harlem. A lot of people have trouble researching. Thanks to Mrs Ogilvie we learnt how to do that. Mrs Anderson taught the people that didn't go cybersmart how to find the answer you want when, you research. The trick was to use keywords. If you write the words the, is or how it will not come up with the answer. I hope that this DLO helps you with your research. Here are the links to the results: LINK 1 LINK 2 LINK 3 LINK 4 LINK 5

Tech: SD Sketching

Today at Tech the Yr7s did 3D sketching at Tech. We have learnt new skills to make our drawing 3D. Miss Ferguson taught how to draw 3D shapes. She also taught us how to change a 2D shape to a 3D shape. We first were drawing oblique shapes. One way she taught us how to draw 3D shapes was trace of an isometric gridline. She then taught us the differnt shades. We had to colour in out 3D shape in the different shades. The last thing she taught us was how to make it look like it was standing on something, by drawing a shadow.

Tahuna Torea

This is a DLO on Tahuna Torea. I worked with Daniel, AJ, Eric, Sylis, CJ and Calvin. This is a place where most of the birds come to rest. Especially Godwits because, of their long migration flight. Dogs are not allowed to come in. They come here to regain the weight they loss to go back to Alaska.

Maths: Maths multiplication word problems

LI: Solving multiplication problems in everyday contexts

Today for maths we did multiplication problems. I really liked this activity because the questions were really fun and creative. I worked with Sylis. There are some trick questions. One of them were to write how he could work it out? Most people just wrote the answer. We were having trouble on the last questions but, we managed to answer them.

Reading

Today in reading we were practising out strategies for our test that is coming up. First we read Feet for flight which is a nonfiction text. We had to read the instructions first then, read the questions and read the text. We had to go back and, find the answer in the text. We had to use a strategy called elimination. We had to find the best answer for the question. After we did that as a group we had to do another text and, do the exact same things.
